I work for BT Security. I wanted a Linux certification to show that I know Linux, However, whilst studying for the LPIC-1 I found out a new thing or two! Secondly, I work with many devices such as Juniper and Checkpoint Firewalls, Proxies, Splunk etc that typically use Linux as their background OS. They usually are slightly different to each other but I found the LPIC covers most variations. Especially the various methods of carrying out service control or adding user accounts. So overall I was very pleased with the framework, I am a more complete Linux man because of it, with a decent reference book to boot. I have been using Unix/Linux daily since 1999, started with Solaris 2.4 and IBM AIX, played with HPUX 10 Suse & RedHat then had more experience of Gentoo, Ubuntu and Debian and Fedora Core. Now days I use Debian and Fedora Core, which I have found covers just about all appliances with a Unix based OS. Not easy exams for me even though I have quite a bit of experience. I found prepping harder improved the pass mark.
